Obituary of John W. Wellman

John W. Wellman, 77, died peacefully on Sunday February 23 at the Oneida Health Extended Care facility.

   John was born in Oneida, NY on May 30, 1947 the son of Howard and Rhoda (Campbell) Wellman. A lifelong Verona resident, he was a graduate of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill high school class of 1965. He earned a BS from SUNY Oswego and then went to SU where he completed his masters degree in public administration. He started teaching criminal justice classes full time at MVCC in 1974 and retired from HCCC in 2002.

   He was married to Karen Parker on December 13, 1974 in Christ Church Sherrill. 

  John was a member of the Verona cemetery Board of Trustees and in retirement worked several years as the caretaker there. In spare time in the summer he could be found in the hammock listening to a Yankee baseball game.

  John is survived by his wife Karen, brother Howard Wellman (Darlene Wyckoff), brother-in-law Tom Parker (Mary Ann), sister-in-law Judy Parker, nieces Jennifer Parker, Jackie (Jeff) Skibitski, Amy O’Hara, Julie Stevens, Amy Hart (Sean), Meg Hogan and nephew Bill Parker. He is also survived by several cousins as well as many close friends.

  Calling hours will be held 4:00-6:00 PM on Friday February 28 at Malecki Funeral Home, 464 Sherrill Rd., Sherrill NY. Interment will be in the spring at the Verona cemetery. In lieu of flowers those wishing may make contributions to the Verona Cemetery Association, PO Box 13 Verona, NY
