Vernon Center-Mary C. Smith formerly of Wells Gifford Road and Noyes Manor passed away peacefully Sunday morning August 31, 2025 in the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility where she has resided at the age of 102.

  She was born in Clinton, New York on April 30, 1923 a daughter of the late James F. and Margaret (Bitteker) Connors and was a graduate of Vernon High School.

  On July 13, 1946 Mary and Robert G. Smith were united in marriage in St. John’s the Evangelist Church in New Hartford, New York and shared that vow of thirty-six years until Robert’s death on August 9, 1972.

 Prior to her retirement in 1975 Mary was employed with the maintenance department at Hamilton College. She was a member of Holy Family Church of Vernon.

  Surviving are her five children and their spouses, Robert (Judy) Smith of Durhamville, James Smith of Sherrill, Bruce (Daniel) Smith of Charlotte, NC., Sandra (John) Durant of Charlotte, NC and Karen DeWolfe of Durhamville, eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, step-sister Patricia Connors of Denver, NC, a special cousin Leo Jr. (Margaret) Bitteker of FL and several nieces and nephews.

  Mary was predeceased by her husband Robert and son-in-law Charles DeWolfe.

   Family and friends are invited to call on Monday September 15, 2025 from 4:00 to 6:00 at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front Street. Private burial will be Tuesday in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Clinton, NY.  Online condolences may be sent to maleckifuneralhome.com
