Obituary of Jean A. Frair

Tega Cay SC- Jean Frair age 96 of Tega Cay, SC passed away early Sunday morning August 31, 2025.
 She was born on March 3, 1929 in Utica, New York one of ten children to the late Earl and Hazel (Kelley) Hughes and was a graduate of the local schools. Jean began her life in the heart of upstate New York. She lived a life marked by quiet strength and dedication to her family.
 On October 4, 1952, Jean and James M. Frair were united in St. Patrick’s Church in Clayville, New York and shared that vow of 36 years until Jim’s early and unexpected death on October 18, 1988.
    Jean and Jim found residence in various states and cities as the couple moved several times to follow Jim’s career. This included moves from New York to New Jersey; Lexington, Kentucky and California. After Jim’s untimely passing Jean was  surrounded by her two children, James and Kathy and their families.
  Coming from a large family, Jean enjoyed caring for and spending time with her family and watching as her family increased in size. In her spare times she enjoyed time with friends playing bocce, Mah Jong and watching every New York Yankee game.
  Surviving are her two children James (Carol) Frair of Dublin, CA, and Kathy (James) Estrada of Tega Cay, SC, her grandchildren, James Frair of Dublin, CA, Michael (Amanda) Estrada, Brenden Estrada, and Justin Estrada, two great-grandchildren, Isla and Lucas Estrada of Fort Mill, SC, one sister Kathleen Stevener of Marcy, NY and one brother Walter Hughes of Waterville, NY and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
  Jean was predeceased by her husband Jim, sisters, Alene Clough, Carol Higham, Margaret Littlefield and Dorothy Smith, brothers, Jack, Richard and Robert Hughes.
Her journey from life reflected a life lived with resilience and grace. Those who knew her will remember her enduring presence and the quiet dignity with which she carried herself. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.
   Family and friends are invited to attend Jean’s memorial service on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front Street, Vernon, NY.
