Obituary of David R. Lampman

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Vernon- On Friday afternoon, August 11, 2023, David Robert Lampman passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family.

David is survived by his wife of 38 years Claire (Friend), and his sons Cody and Aaron. David is also survived by his sister Lynn (Hoolihan) and sister Debbie and brother-in-law John (Stier) and his father Robert Lampman. He was predeceased by his mother Joan Kitchen Lampman.

David was born on May 29th, 1949. As a boy in Vernon, he enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing. He was an avid drag racer and won multiple trophies at Utica Rome Speedway. After graduating from VVS in 1967, David promptly joined the Marine Corp and was sent to Vietnam.

In April of 1969, David was seriously injured during combat in Northern Vietnam. For his sacrifice, David was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a proud marine.

After Vietnam, David travelled the US for a few years, eventually becoming a certified diving instructor while living in Houston, Texas. David loved to dive and found fulfillment in teaching his passion to others. He was also an avid body builder and weight lifter for his entire life, a passion that his sons now share.

In 1981, David met his wife Claire in Gloucester, MA. They travelled the US together, diving in the Keys and off the coast of Cape Ann. They bought a beautiful home in Gloucester where they raised their two sons, Cody and Aaron.

In 2001, the family moved to Arizona, where they enjoyed boating on Lake Powell and exploring the desert. David was a fan of western films and especially loved hiking through the slot canyons in the area. The desert landscape became a place close to the heart of his family.

In 2011, David and Claire returned to Vernon to be closer to family. David purchased a 1985 Corvette which he restored and often showed at Corvettes at The Beach. He enjoyed hiking in the area and spending time with his friends and family.

We are all grateful to have known Dave as our loving father, husband, and friend. He was an example to all of us of how to face the difficulties of our lives and grow beyond them. Until his last day, David always strove to be a better person. He was a man who was not afraid to show his love and pride for his family.
