Obituary of Elaine M. Bauer

Canastota-Elaine M. Bauer, age 62, of 3rd Street passed away unexpectedly early Sunday morning September 29, 2024 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on December 20, 1961 in Hamilton, New York a daughter of the late William Smith and Betty (Roher) Smith Hilts and was a graduate of Oneida schools. Elaine was employed in the assembly department of Smith Medical (DHD) for over twenty years before working with the housekeeping department at the Oneida Health Extended Care Facility. She then went to work in the Oneida School cafeteria and later worked as an aide with the one-on-one program at BOCES. On July 29, 2007 Elaine and John J. Bauer were united in marriage in Munnsville, NY and have shared this loving vow of over seventeen years together. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, shopping and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving is her husband, John J. Bauer of Canastota, her son Jason Kroth (Kim Hopper) of Munnsville, daughter, Samantha Reiter of Madison, step-daughter, Misty (DJ) Fogg of North Carolina, her beloved grandchildren, Kora Reiter of Madison, Ryan (Skye) Kroth of Oneida, Selena Kroth of Oneida, Alea Moreno of Oneida, two great-grandchildren, Harper and Colton. Also surviving are her siblings, Debra (Todd Van-Riper) Smith of Kentucky, Ron Smith of Newport, Don Smith of Rome and William (Marsha) Smith of Morrisville and several nieces and nephews. Elaine was predeceased by her granddaughter, Kyleigh Rose Reiter, mother, Betty Hilts and sister Patricia Skellam. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Knoxboro-Augusta Cemetery, 2357 Huth-Sayer Road, Oriskany Falls, NY, 13425.
