Obituary of Earl J. Durant

Earl Durant, age 66, of Oneida, New York, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, December 29, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 5, 1958, in Oneida, New York, to Frederick J. and Christine (Grabow) Durant and attended Oneida schools. Before retiring, Earl worked as a truck driver for Ed Herrington's in Hillsdale, New York, a job he truly enjoyed. Known for his exceptional customer service and warm personality, Earl had a special ability to make everyone laugh and was famous for his contagious belly laugh that could light up any room. In his free time, he loved taking scenic drives through the Hudson Valley, admiring its beauty on the way back home. Earl had a passion for cars and trucks, old westerns, and WWE wrestling. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his beloved grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Pop-Pop"—a name he cherished deeply. He is survived by his three children and their spouses: Shannon (husband Tyron) Austin, James (fiancé Amber Caldara) Durant, and Andrew (wife Caitlin) Durant, along with his seven cherished grandchildren, Tré, Aiden, Max, Jace, Liam, Rory and Riley. Earl is also survived by his mother, Christine G. Durant; his sister, Eileen Simson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Earl was predeceased by his father, Frederick J. Durant, and his son, Adam Michael Durant. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him, especially his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy as their beloved Pop-Pop, his colleagues and customers, who appreciated his dedication and kindness, and everyone who was lucky enough to experience his incredible humor and legendary belly laugh. Family and friends may call on Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front Street, Vernon, NY.
