George C. Trost Jr. Canastota- George C. Trost Jr., age 89, of Canastota and a former President of the National Bank of Vernon passed away early Monday morning February 22, 2016 at the Lutheran Care of Clinton. He was born in Clinton, New York on April 22, 1926 a son of the late George C., Sr. and Eleanor (Day) Trost and was a graduate of Clinton High School. During WW II George proudly served his country with the 311 Infantry from 1945 to 1946. George was employed for many years with the National Bank of Vernon where he served as past President and Chairman of the Board, retiring in 1992. He also worked in the money room at Vernon Downs for many years. He was a past President of the Kiwanis Club, a charter member of the Vernon Rod and Gun Club, a 37 year member of the Greenwood Falls Hunting Club, a member of the Oneida Madison Independent Bankers and was the treasurer for the VVS Central School for many years. George loved the outdoors and was an enthusiastic outdoors man and enjoyed these sports with his family, friends and his Greenwood Falls Hunting Club buddies. Surviving are his current wife, Beth Wilcox Trost, who he married on June 24, 1978, and her children, Dean Miller of Chittenango and Debbie Acord of Baldwinsville. Also surviving are his first wife, Violet Peters Trost, and their children, Richard Trost of Vernon Center, Edward (Shirley) Trost of Vernon, Patricia (Gary) Planck of Vernon, Rebecca (Gary) Onyan of Vernon, Charlene (Andrew) Gregory of Vernon, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Philip Trost and his sister Edith Sitts. Family and friend are invited to call on February 26, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Malecki Funeral Home, Inc., 23 Front Street, Vernon. Mr. Trost's funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 at the Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church, W. Seneca Street, Vernon. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Clinton, NY.
