Obituary of Gerald J. Casanova

Gerald J. "Jerry" Casanova
Verona-Gerald J. "Jerry" Casanova, age, 86 of Spring Road passed away unexpectedly in the Oneida Healthcare Center emergency room after being stricken at home.
He was born on December 7, 1929 in Eau Claire, Wis. a son of the late Joseph and Lucinda (Belling) Casanova and was a graduate of Stevens Point School, Wis.
From 1951-to 1953 Jerry was enlisted with the United States Army Signal Corp. and was in charge of the telephone systems for all New York State Army bases while stationed in Governors Island, NY.
On October 10, 1953 Jerry was united in marriage with Jeanne M. Spencer and the couple has shared a loving union of nearly sixty-three years together.
Jerry had an extensive career with over thirty-nine years being employed with different telephone companies, first with Wisconsin Telephone, New York Telephone, NYNEX and then retired from Verizon in 1987.
He gave freely of his time volunteering with the Ronald McDonald House of Syracuse, the Marauders Drum and Bugle Corp of Syracuse, a past Boy Scout Leader and Coach for the TYA, Tuckahoe Youth Assoc., Baseball.
Jerry was a member of Holy Family Church of Vernon where he served many years a lecture and was a member of the Men's Club and Church Council. Other memberships included the Verona Fire Department Fire Police and the Telephone Company Pioneers.
Surviving are his wife, Jeanne, one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Thomas Curtacci of Lowell, one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Bonnie Casanova of Remsen, grandchildren, Jeffrey and Leigh Curtacci of Watertown, Daniel and Jean Curtacci of Richmond, VA, Sarah Casanova of Briar Cliff Manor and Jessica Casanova of Remsen, great-grandchildren, Isabella , Natalia, Lillianna and Charleston Curtacci. Also surviving are one sister, Joan (Douglas) Kongslien of Stevens Point, Wis. and brother, Donald (Pearl) Casanova of Janesville, Wis. Jerry was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Lyle and Betty Casanova.
Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front Street, Vernon, New York. Jerry's funeral service will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home immediately following calling hours. Burial will be in St. Helena's Cemetery, Middle Road, Oneida, NY. In lieu of flowers donations in memory may be sent to CABVI, Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 507 Kent Street, Utica, New York, 13501.
