Obituary of William G. Finley

William (Bill) G. Finley Sherrill-William {Bill} G. Finley, 84, of Sherrill passed away Sunday, June 25 at the Oneida Healthcare facility with members of his family by his side. Bill was born April 4, 1933, the son of Dr. Edmund and Irene Dunn Finley of Oneida, NY. He graduated in 1951 from Oneida High School, spent four years in the United States Air Force and then graduated from the Utica College of Syracuse University. Bill married the former Sandra Endemann of Sherrill on December 30, 1961 in St. Patrick's Church in Oneida. He joined the faculty of Clinton Central School, retiring in 1987 from the math department of the Junior/Senior High School. Mr. Finley spent many summers working at Vernon Downs in the Para Mutual Department. A communicant of St. Helena's Catholic Church in Sherrill; Bill acted as chaplain for many years for the Sherrill American Legion Post 230; a member of the Durhamville Vet's Club, the Oneida Owl's Nest and was a past member of the Benevolent Order of the Elks in Oneida. Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years; children- Timothy Finley, Vernon; Dr. T. Kevin Finley, Bethel, Maine; Megan and John Vanderhoof, Verona, NY; Maureen and Marty Brendle, Concord, North Carolina,12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a brother Ned Finley of Oneida. Bill was predeceased by brothers Roger and Lawrence Finley. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday June 28, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 & 6:00 t0 8:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 464 Sherrill Road, Sherrill, NY. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday June, 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Helena's Church, Primo Ave., Sherrill, NY. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Helena's Cemetery, Middle Rd. Oneida, NY In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sherrill American Legion Post #230 in Bill's memory.
