Viola Hatch
VERONA – Viola Hatch, age 96, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 4, 2017, at Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility, with her loving daughters by her side.
She was born in Rome, New York on April 14, 1921, and was the daughter of the late John and Bertha (Oatman) Bower. Viola received her education in Rome schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1939.
On December 25, 1940, she was married to Burrell Hatch. Viola shared almost 40 years with Burrell, until his passing on March 15, 1980. Several years after Burrell passed away, Viola moved to Noyes Manor in Sherrill, where she lived for 17 years. Most recently she resided at the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility.
Viola was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Verona. She was also a member of the Daylight Friendship Club of Verona , the Vernon Senior Citizens, the Verona Garden Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 404 of Vernon. Viola enjoyed baking cakes and cookies for their many meetings, and whenever possible she enjoyed playing a good game of pitch.
She will be greatly missed by her family for all her talents and caring nature.
She is survived by her two daughters, Phyllis (Dave) Hartwell of Oneida, and Carol (Paul) Doornbos of Florida; her grandchildren, Jeffrey (Kim) Williams of Blossvale, Jodi Delapaz of Missouri, Trina Doornbos of Florida, and Todd (Sandy) Doornbos of Florida, three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Williams, Amber Doornbos, Justin Doornbos; one great great-granddaughter, Lyla Williams; a great great-grandson arriving in October, Leo Burrell; many nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Hatch of Verona.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Viola was predeceased by her sisters and brothers, Paul (Ann) Bowers, Milton (Margaret) Bower, Hazel Thurston-Houseman and Evelyn (Tom) Lewin.
In keeping with Viola's wishes, calling hours, funeral service, and burial in St. Peter's Cemetery in Verona will be private and at the convenience of the family.
