Sonya Es. Wheeler Sherrill-Sonya Es. Wheeler, age 95, a resident of Wayland Street since 1948 passed away peacefully Tuesday morning February 24, 2015 in the Oneida Healthcare Center Extended Care Facility. She was born on February 10, 1920 in Ramsey, Ohio one of nine children of the late Frank and Pricenia (Cherkuruk) Stick and was a graduate of Ramsey High School. Sonya proudly served her country during WW II with the Women's Army Corp and was honorably discharged on June 1, 1943. On November 16, 1944 Sonya and James A. Wheeler were united in marriage in Buffalo, New York and the couple shared that loving union until Mr. Wheeler's death on November 5, 1987. Prior to her retirement Sonya was employed in the assembly department of Oneida Limited Silversmiths with over twenty-seven years of service. She was a member of the American Legion Post 1153 of Sylvan Beach and the WAC Auxiliary A-500432. In her spare time she enjoyed, crocheting knitting, playing pinochle and doing crossword puzzles. Surviving are her two sons, James A. (Christine) Wheeler Jr. of Sylvan Beach, Kevin (Alana) Wheeler of Oneida, one daughter Jacqueline (Leon) Bronisznewski of Verona, thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and one brother John Stick of Massillon, Ohio and many nieces and nephews. Sonya was predeceased by her husband James, three brothers, Walter, Alec and Michael and four sisters, Alice, Ann, Helen and Mary. Mrs. Wheeler's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday February 27, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Helena's Church, Primo Ave., Sherrill, New York. There will be no public calling hours. Spring burial will be in St. Helena's Cemetery, Oneida, New York. Arrangements are with the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., Sherrill, New York. Online condolences may be sent to maleckifuneralhome.com
