Obituary of A.J. Alvin Johnson

Verona-"A.J." Alvin Johnson, age 76 of Verona passed away Saturday December 19, 2020 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. He was born on October 25, 1944 in Greensboro, NC a son of the late Jesse Prentice and Bertha (May) Johnson and was a graduate of Ragsdale High School. In 1963 Al enlisted with the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1967. On April 8, 1967 Al and Kathleen "Kathy" Norman were united in marriage in Rome's St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church and have shared this loving vow of over fifty-three years together. Al retired from Rome Cable with thirty years of service before becoming a bus driver for the Turning Stone Casino for the past eighteen years where he enjoyed meeting and greeting his passengers. Al was an avid golfer and a thirty year member of the Verona Volunteer Fire Department He is survived by his loving wife, "Kathy", daughter Julie and son-in-law, Nate Netzband, his beloved eight grandchildren, Kateri, Erin, Samuel (U.S. Marines) Molly Dunfield, Cole, Mason Leah and Reese Netzband, one brother Wayne (Shirley) Johnson of Florida, one sister Linda (Don) Steed of N.C. and several nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by his parents and a daughter Amy (Johnson) Dunfield. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Elizabeth's ICU that cared for Al. Graveside services with military honors and Catholic Christian will be held Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in Verona Cemetery, E. Main Street, Verona.
