Obituary of Duane R. MacAnn
Sherrill – Mr. Duane R. MacAnn, age 90, of Life Ave. passed away late Wednesday night, January 6, 2021 at the Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center. Born in Baldwinsville on September 3, 1930, Duane was the son of the late Grace (Terpening) Cowan and Robert MacAnn. Duane was a graduate of Sherrill High School and attended classes at Syracuse University studying design during his working career.
On September 9, 1950, Virginia and Duane MacAnn were united in marriage in Canastota, NY and the couple shared a loving union of sixty-five years. Duane began his working career at Oneida Limited Silversmiths in the design department a position he held for 20 years. He finished his career at Syracuse China specializing in commercial design including a specialty imprint for Syracuse University athletes on chinaware.
Duane was predeceased by his wife Virginia MacAnn of Sherrill and is survived by one daughter, Susan Griffing of New Hartford; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Donald (Joanne) MacAnn of Utica and James (Karen) MacAnn of Rochester; two grandsons and their wives, Joshua (Amanda) MacAnn of Elburn, IL and Gregory (Julie) MacAnn of Webster; and four great grandchildren, Murphy, Reagan, Sofia, and Rory. Duane was predeceased by two brothers Robert MacAnn and Jack Cowan.
Duane was blessed with many wonderful friends while in sports and involvement in the Sherrill community. As a young adult he played Baseball for Sherrill, then was a promoter and coach for youth baseball in Sherrill. He enjoyed playing golf at the Oneida Community Golf Course for over 30 years and bowling in the men's league at the C.A.C.. He was active on the project for the construction of the Sherrill City Pool. He was a proud Sherrill citizen and always willing to give time to better the community.
The family offers its sincere appreciation to the staff at Faxton-St. Luke's Medical Center. Due to the current restrictions in place, no memorial service is scheduled at this time. Inurnment will be in Valley View Cemetery Columbarium, Oneida, New York.
