Obituary of Cathy D. Gadz

Vernon-Cathy D. Gadz, age 64, a longtime area resident passed away unexpected Saturday afternoon May 29, 2021 in Rome Memorial Hospital after being stricken ill at her home. She was born on June 15, 1956 in Oneida, NY a daughter of the late Michael N. and Anne (Jednak) Gadz and was a graduate of the Westmoreland Schools. Cathy went on to attend Utica College and graduated from SUNY Geneseo where she received her bachelor's degree in speech pathology. Prior to her retirement Cathy was employed for over thirty-two years as a Speech Therapist with Whitesboro School System. She was a longtime active member of Holy Family Church in Vernon where she sang in the contemporary and traditional choirs and was also a cantor for funeral masses. Cathy was a helping, caring person who called on the sick and cared for her family. Surviving are her sister Christine C. Gadz and daughter Mikayla A. Gadz both of Vernon, one aunt Olga Gadz of Vernon, cousins, Natalie Gonzalez of Vernon; and her sons Jimmy Gonzalez of Syracuse and Danny Gonzalez of Ohio, cousins Walt (Toni) Gadz of Rome, Mark Jednak of Michigan, Michele (Pio) Centi of Michigan, Paul Jednak (Tim Kasunic) and their son Cam of Ohio, cousins John (Lynn) Jednak of Michigan and Jimmy Jednak of Michigan, her canine companion Matty and many friends. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday June 3, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front Street, Vernon, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 4, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church Peterboro Street, Vernon, NY. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Rome, NY.
