Bernard J. Adamski, 97, of Vernon, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 with his loving daughter by his side.
Born in Lorain, OH, on September 28, 1917, Bernard was the son of the late Michael and Victoria Hnat Adamski. He was a graduate of Rome Free Academy, the State University of Iowa and Albany Law School and was admitted to the New York State Bar in November, 1949. On March 31, 1951, Bernard was united in marriage to the former Claire LaDeau in Little Falls, NY with whom he shared true love and devotion for over 64 years. Claire passed away on April 27, 2015.
He was a veteran of World War II, having enlisted in the U.S. Army in June, 1942. He served with the 76th Infantry Division until entering Officer Candidate School where he received a commission as 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Transportation Corps. He also served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations and was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant in April, 1946. He was the proud recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and American Campaign Medal.
Bernard practiced law in Rome, NY until retiring in December, 1999. He retained a close relationship with a number of his former clients and for a considerable period of time, he was pleased to assist or advise them. He was a member of the New York State, Oneida County and Rome Bar Associations, Army Reserve Corps, several civic organizations and was the attorney for the Federal Land Bank.
Bernard is survived by his daughter, Abigail and her significant other and valued family friend, Paul Mickelson of Utica, NY; his niece and her husband, Jeanette and Stevan Kacvinsky of Oneida, NY and great-nieces, Carly and Cassandra Kacvinsky of New Orleans, LA. He also leaves several other family members, friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Sophie and Walter Maxwell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Family Church, Peterboro Street, Vernon. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Please omit floral offerings.
