Obituary of Donald M. Roberts

Sherrill-Donald M. Roberts, age 77, a longtime Vernon resident and more recently a Sherrill resident passed away unexpectedly Saturday, December 24, 2022 at the Oneida Healthcare Center after being stricken ill at his home.

  He was born on July 31, 1945 in Oneida, NY a son of the late Frederick and Ann (Smith) Roberts and was a graduate of the Vernon Verona Sherrill Schools.

  On August 13, 1967 Donald and M. Linda Simchik were united in marriage at St. Francis of Assisi Church and have shared that vow of over fifty-five years together.

  Prior to his retirement, Donald was the maintenance supervisor for the Vernon Verona Sherrill School District.

  Donald enjoyed working around his house and in his yard; and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. They referred to him by the nickname “Grumpy,” but anyone who knew him knew he was the nicest person you would ever meet.

  Surviving are his wife M. Linda Roberts of Sherrill, one son, Jeffrey (Paula) Roberts of Somersworth, NH, one daughter Shannon (Jeffrey) Pianka of Utica, three beloved grandchildren, Paige, Connar and Erin, two great-grandchildren, Cohen (Coco) and Dani and one brother, Stanley Roberts of Vernon and several nieces and nephews.

 Donald was predeceased by his parents and brother Richard Roberts.

  In keeping with Donald’s wishes calling hours and services will be private for the family.
