Obituary of Gerald H. Munroe

Oneida-Gerald H. Munroe, age 95, formerly of Lenox Ave. passed away late Sunday evening December 25, 2022 in the Bethany Gardens Skilled Living Center after a brief stay.

  He was born on February 11, 1927 in Lebanon, NY a son of the late Harry and Katherine (Rashford) Munroe and was a graduate of Oneida High School.

  On June 8, 1947 Gerald and Myrtle E. “Boots” Treen were united in marriage in St. Joseph Church of Oneida and shared that vow of nearly sixty-eight years together until “Boots” death on June 3, 2015.

  Prior to his retirement in 1995 Gerald was employed with the Oneida Daily Dispatch; first as the newspaper photographer and later in his career as the plant manager of the newspaper.

  He was a longtime communicant of St. Joseph Church. Gerald was a talented carpenter who most enjoyed his times spent at his camp on Oneida Lake and fishing on Oneida Lake.

  Surviving are his two daughters, Deborah (Robert) Metzger of Vernon and Patricia (Thomas) Trunko of Verona, two sons, Michael Munroe of Sherrill and David (Betsy) of Florida; five grandchildren, Scott (Reagan) Shannon (Jason), Morgan (Randy), Seth (Kaleigh) and Brad (Nicole) and fourteen great-grandchildren.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday December 31, 2022 at 10:30 a.m.at St. Joseph Church, 121 St. Joseph Pl., Oneida, NY with Rev. Christopher Ballard celebrant. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Oneida, NY. Arrangements are with the Malecki Funeral Home of Sherrill. Online condolences may be sent to maleckifuneralhome.com
