Obituary of Denise R. Mondi

Vernon-Mrs. Denise Rose Mondi, passed away early Wednesday morning January 11, 2023 in St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with her loving family at her side.

 She was born on October 11, 1947 a daughter of the late Donald B. and Victoria J (Rosemarino) Stevens. Denise graduated from Holy Rosary Catholic High School in Syracuse and then attended Marywood University, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Scranton, PA.

  Denise spent time working as a receptionist at Mohawk Airlines; she was a secretary for Agway Co. as well as an executive secretary at General Electric in Syracuse.

  In 1970, she married Tony Mondi and the couple has shared a loving relationship of fifty-two years together. Being her husband’s profession was harness racing Denise took interest in horseback riding, learning both english and dressage and spent many wonderful years enjoying her passion of riding her favorite horse Handsome.

  Denise was a faith filled communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and cherished attending mass celebrated by their Pastor Rev. Edmund Castronovo.

  She was a loving mother and grandmother who cherished any time being with her family and friends. In her spare time she enjoyed outings with her two best friends Jackie VanDreason and dear sister-in-law, Anita Stevens.

  Surviving are her husband Tony, of Vernon; two daughters, Noelle of Durham, NC and Carla of Oneida; one son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Jean of Sherrill. Her four beloved grandchildren, Alexandria Rose, Joseph, Paulie and Ryan; sister, Donna Spagnoli, three sisters-in-law, Anita Stevens, Lillian Bossone and Juliette Morelle, aunt, Virginia Warne; brother-in-law, Dr. Frank A. Mondi and many nieces and nephews.

  Denise was predeceased by her parents, Donald B. and Victoria J. Stevens, one brother, Donald Stevens, sister-in-law Clorinda Mondi, brothers-in-law Charles Spagnoli and Carmen Bossone and father in-law and mother-in-law Dominic and Celesta Mondi.

  Denise was a wonderful person who will be missed by all who knew her.

  Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc. 23 Front Street, Vernon, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. Edmund Castronovo on Monday January 16, 2023 at 12:00 noon at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 5652 E. Main Street, Verona, NY. Burial will follow in Verona Cemetery, Verona, NY. In lieu of flowers donations in Denise’s memory may be sent to the Covenant House, PO Box 758636, Topeka, KS, 66675.
