Munnsville-John E. Vanderwerken, age 54, of Middle Road passed away peacefully Sunday evening March 12, 2023 in the comfort of his home surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

  He was born on March 1, 1969 in Oneida, New York a son of Richard T. and Patricia G. (Harrington) Vanderwerken and was a graduate of Stockbridge Valley Central School.

  John was a dairy farmer along with his brother Jeff and they operated the Vanderwerken Bothers Farm in Munnsville.

  John enjoyed working on the farm where he spent some of his time splitting wood for the cold winter months. In his limited spare time he enjoyed being an outdoorsman fishing and hunting.

  Surviving is his mother, Patricia G. Vanderwerken of Munnsville, two sisters, Jane Case of Knoxboro and Joann (Michael) Gates of Roanoke, VA, one brother Jeff (Jennifer) Vanderwerken of Knoxboro, one niece, Grace Gates, two nephews, Andrew (Sarah) Gates and Robert Case, as well as several cousins, aunts and uncles.

  Calling hours will be private for the family. John will be laid to rest next to his father Richard in Stockbridge Cemetery, Munnsville, NY. Arrangements are with the Malecki Funeral Home of Sherrill. Online condolences may be sent to maleckifuneralhome.com
