Obituary of Crescent Anthony Amodeo
Verona-Crescent Anthony Amodeo, age 96, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the second son of Nicholas and Theresa Amodeo (Sparno).
He attended both The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and The Brooklyn Polytechnical Institute. Crescent pursued dual careers as an Electrical Engineer for the Department of Defense and a Local 802 Associated Musician Union life member, entertaining in Greater Metropolitan New York City Area and Catskill Mountain venues for decades.
He served in Japan with the United States Army during World War II. He continued his service stateside after the war and became a founding member of the Army Field Band.
Crescent devoted much of his personal time to the community. He was dedicated to the Boy Scouts of America, holding numerous leadership positions, both abroad and in Central New York. He served as a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus member, and member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Crescent was also a Ham Radio enthusiast with over 70 years of experience. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Verona, New York.
Crescent is survived by Alice (Gluck), his wife of 70 years, his daughter Marian Winn, son Nicholas and daughter-in-law Domenica Amodeo, and daughter Catherine Amodeo. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Elizabeth. He has nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, June 2, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc. 23 Front Street, Vernon, NY. Father Edmund Castronovo will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, 3 June 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 5652 E. Main Street, Verona, New York. Burial will be at a later date at Calverton National Cemetery, Wading River, NY
The family asks, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Hospice and Palliative Care in Oneida, Herkimer, and Eastern Madison Counties, which provided the highest quality care and support to Crescent and his family.
