Obituary of Dorothy Booth

Vernon-Dorothy Booth, age 102, a longtime resident of Van Epps Street and more recently of the Presbyterian Independent Living passed away Thursday morning, April 25, 2024.

She was born on September 10, 1921 in Kersey, PA a daughter of the late William and Mabel (Jordan) Lecker and was a graduate of the Scio High School, Scio, NY.

On April 20, 1938 Dorothy and Floyd Booth were united in marriage in Bath, New York and shared that sacred sixty-one-year vow until Floyd's death on October 9, 1999.

Dorothy started the Brownie Troop in Vernon Center. After her children grew up and moved out Dorothy had several employments and for the last eighteen years was spent at Price Chopper in Oneida as a super sample lady where she enjoyed the workers and customers. She and her husband took in many children from Catholic Charities who needed a home and that was very rewarding to the couple.

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and a prayerful member of Holy Family Church in Vernon and was very active for many years with the church organizations and functions where she served regularly as an eucharistic minister at the Saturday vigil mass. She as a past member of the Vernon American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving is one son Louis (Rosalie) Leggett of Oneida, one sister, Elizabeth Schlick of Vernon Center, six grandchildren, Jaqueline Booth West, David Booth, Kimberly Booth Briggs, Jennifer Eaton Sharkey, Dr. Tristum Eaton, and Megan Eaton Gervais, five great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, an extended family, the Andersons and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Floyd, three sons, William, Edward and David Booth and one daughter, Marianne Booth Eaton. A special mention of her longtime friend and care giver Karen Pekola and her husband Jim Pekola for their friendship and help.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, April 28, 2024 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home, 23 Front Street, Vernon, NY. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday April 29, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Spirit of Hope Holy Family Church, 4352 Peterboro Street, Vernon, NY, with Rev. James Buttner officiating. Burial will follow in St. Helena's Cemetery, Middle Road, Oneida, NY. In memory of Dorothy please send donations to Spirit of Hope Holy Family Food Pantry, 121 St. Joseph's Place, Oneida, NY, 13421.
