Obituary of Diana D. Weber

Please share a memory of Diana to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Diana Dahlin Weber passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, in Westmoreland, New York, on June 15, 2024. She was born on October 28, 1945, in Waterville, Maine. Diana is survived by her husband, David Weber, to whom she was married for over 55 years, her two children, Christof Weber and Katrina Weber, their spouses, and nine grandchildren. She was also survived by five siblings, Heidi Philley, Gretchen Jacob, Hans Dahlin, Leif Dahlin, and John Dahlin, as well as their spouses and children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Norma Dahlin, and an older sister, Holly Dahlin.

Diana and David served as missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators and the Summer Institute of Linguistics for over 48 years, primarily in Huánuco, Perú. Diana was a lifelong learner and teacher. She earned bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from The King’s College, the University of Pittsburgh, and Syracuse University, respectively. In addition to her decades in Peru, her work took her to many places, including Argentina, Brazil, Cambodia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Ghana, Guatemala, Guyana, India, Mexico, Spain, Thailand, Uganda, and Venezuela.

As a result of her service, countless children and adults worldwide learned to read and write in their own language and were able to advance in their educations. She believed literacy was a fundamental human right and that teaching people to read and write was Kingdom work. She poured herself, her expertise, and her resources into many people’s lives, especially women. Her passion and work have been multiplied through them.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on July 6, 2024, at the Immanuel Baptist Church in New Hartford. Further details and a link to the live stream of the service may be found here. https://sites.google.com/sil-lead.org/dianadahlinweber.

She requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the ministry she started in her retirement. Donations to Language, Literacy, and Life can be made through the New Horizons Foundation here: https://admin.newhorizonsfoundation.com/donation/create/1365.
