Obituary of Jason E. Collins

Jason Edward Collins, formerly from Verona, NY, died unexpectedly at the age of 42 in Zhuhai, China.

  Jason was born in Syracuse, NY on August 18, 1981 to Chris and Cheryl Collins. He graduated from VVS High School Class of 1999. Jason earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree at Tulane University in New Orleans. He went on to Brooklyn College where he completed a Master of Arts in English in May, 2009 and then attended The New School in New York City earning a Master of Fine Arts Degree there in May, 2012.

  Jason enjoyed education as a student and as a teacher. He made friendships wherever he was with his students and colleagues. He taught English as a second language and especially enjoyed special projects with curriculum development. Jason worked with students at Syracuse University from 2013 to 2015. He then went to Dalien, China to teach at Dongbei University, and in August, 2019 went on to City University of Hong Kong with a PhD Fellowship. His last school affiliation was United International College in Zhuhai, China.

Besides his parents, Jason is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Wendy Roberts of Vernon Center, NY, and his sister and brother-in-law of Spencerport, NY, Kimberley and Scott Haines, as well as his nieces and nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins. Jason leaves behind his beloved dog Ethan who was an important part of his life.

  Graveside service and Celebration of Life will be Saturday, July 27^th. The service will be at the Verona Cemetery on Main Street, Verona at 11:00 a.m. The Celebration of Life will follow at the Verona Fire Dept. on Volunteer Avenue in Verona.
